Lies, love, deception and confusion

Recently a friend and I had a chat about the reoccurring plot in all modern movies lately, and his point was that all new movies have some kind of "love conquers all" theme embedded.

Ok, think about any romantic comedy you have watched recently, was there a love plot line? Yes Ok now was the couple married? Yes then they went through a rocky phase, they fought, both went their separate ways, came to a shocking realisation that they can't live without each other, then they get back together, queue sloppy music, laughter and tears and voila, a RomCom is born.

Or if they weren't married then they both know they like each other, but neither of them will admit it, then some event separates them, they fight and go on for a few days, both go their separate ways, come to a shocking realisation that they can't live without each other, then they get back together, queue sloppy music, laughter and tears and voila, a RomCom is born.

Do you see what I did there? So generic, but that has become the plot, they all tell different jokes in the middle but it's the same thing in the end. Why is there never something new or unexpected? Have people run out of ideas of ways to entertain us?

Even action movies all follow pretty much the same script, tough guy gets himself into trouble because of a girl, then takes on the whole world, fights of some type of corporation, and then gets cut up and scrapped, then he wins the fight, rides off into the distance with said women on his arm. Basically a RomCom with some action.

Come on guys, the matrix was original, and then it was all downhill from “the notebook”. New stuff people, we require it, please. For the love of all mankind, everything doesn’t need to be a love story!
