Being Punched Sucks: The Pointlessness of Fighting

Getting Punched

It's an odd thing that guys and many less educated women do. Fighting, brawling and "getting it on" are ancient ways the uneducated express their anger and show their dominance in society.

Generally with these people you will also find that it increases their social value to pick a fight and win it. Cavemen also used to do this until they evolved. Such a crude, fighting lifestyle can't be good for people. Let’s have a look at people that fight for a profession.

Either they end up totally incoherent and disabled, or they shake uncontrollably, or they are dead, and this is all from taking punches. Many powerful blows end up with the payload on the head, where it is most dangerous. Then they tend to get quite ugly—taking so many punches isn't good for anyone’s complexion, and their ears begin to look like something a Portuguese woman would be proud of if she grew it in her garden.

What then are the benefits of this age-old ritual? I've gone looking and I will list what I have found. Fighting:
  • provides a good sporting spirit
  • provides good entertainment
and that's about it. How then, knowing all the cons of getting punched, could you still want to do it in an uncontrolled environment where it could be a brawl to the death?

Yes, you might look macho to a crowd, but one day when you are married with children and you can't hold a pen properly without shaking like Michael J. Fox, then what has it brought you? Nothing.

I can understand learning to do it for self-defence, and then training so that you can protect yourself if the need arises, but that should be as far as it goes. You shouldn't walk around looking for a fight. Maybe if you lived in the time before wheel was invented and fire was domesticated, it would be acceptable.

What I'm trying to say is that in today’s fast-paced world fighting tactics are washed up and pointless. Just relax. The world isn't out to get you. There are no conspiracy theories and for goodness' sake, fighting isn't a lifestyle, it's a sport, and one that will break you permanently. Shake away, fighter boy.
